Successful Maternal and Fetal Outcome in Patients with Takayasu Arteritis: Two Rare Case Reports
Takayasu’s arteritis is a rare idiopathic inflammatory disease of the big arteries that mostly affects the aorta, its primary branches, and the coronary and pulmonary arteries. It is most commonly found in women of childbearing age (80 percent ). Pregnancy, while not commonly related with an exacerbation of inflammatory vascular lesions, is indicated to be considered only during remission. Aortic regurgitation, hypertension, and congestive heart failure are all worsened by increased intravascular volume during pregnancy. Hypertension, which can cause intrauterine development restriction, maternal heart failure, and foetal bleeding during the postpartum period, is one of the significant issues that can arise. The anaesthetic management of Takayasu arteritis patients undergoing caesarean delivery is difficult. The difficulties may be amplified if the patient additionally has SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection, as documented in a few recent trials. In uncomplicated Takayasu arteritis, however, a caesarean section can be safely performed under spinal anaesthetic.
