WhatsApp might soon allow users to react to messages with any emoji.
Like other Meta-owned social media services like Instagram, WhatsApp recently launched a feature that let users to respond to messages using emoji. There are currently six distinct emoticons available for use while responding to messages on WhatsApp. WaBetaInfo claims that WhatsApp is apparently testing a feature that will allow users to access the whole library of emojis to react to messages, which is expected to change this.
Users may currently respond to messages with a similar set of six emoticons on Instagram and Messenger, both of which are owned by Meta. The “+” sign, however, may be found near the end of the list of emojis on each of those platforms. Once a person does that, they are able to choose any emoji from the complete emoji library to respond to the message.
WaBetaInfo had initially reported on some references to a similar ability when reactions to messages was initially rolled out to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.10.9, but wasn’t yet able to confirm it until now. But with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.9.4 update, the option to select any emoji from the entire library is clearly visible.
Screenshots captured by the WhatsApp information site demonstrate how users can view the whole emoji library by clicking on the plus sign directly next to the collection of emojis.
