Soil area the size of Berlin lost each year due to water erosion in the EU
A recent assessment has found that water erodes 970 million tonnes of soil each year within the EU. this might mean a 1 meter-depth loss of soil from a neighborhood like the dimensions of the town of Berlin, or a 1 metric linear unit loss from a neighborhood doubly the dimensions of Belgique. the very fact that it takes a hundred years to make one cm of recent soil underneath natural temperate grasslands offers a concept of the magnitude of the matter of soil loss within the EU. The impact of water erosion on global crop yields under different tillage scenarios
Land degradation from unsustainable agricultural management is assumed to possess already reduced food production in several areas of the globe, and crop harm from a temperature change is currently on the horizon. although tough to predict, interactions between temperature change and land degradation can doubtless intensify pressure on food security. international crop models area unit wont to assess future pathways for international food production underneath climate situations, however, the impact of land degradation processes on crop yields are neglected thus far because of their quality. This study can offer new insights into the impacts of temperature change and land degradation on international crop cultivation underneath completely different situations for agricultural management. the most tool for this study could be an international gridded version of the Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC) model, that is employed to simulate the expansion and development of major crops mistreatment soil, weather, and field management information at over a hundred 000 locations worldwide. EVALUATION OF WATER EROSION IN SUGARCANE CROPS USING EROSION PLOTS AND PHOTO COMPARISON TECHNICS
The objective of this study was to gauge the processes of water erosion in sugarcane crops mistreatment experimental plots and pic comparison techniques. Soil losses were quantified in four erosion observation plots settled in 2 watersheds within the center-east region of the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Soil physical and qualitative analysis was performed, and precipitation and slope information were collected. This information were analyzed beside soil vegetation cowl indexes obtained from the classification of digital images. [3]
Soil roughness indexes and their relationship with water erosion
The objective of this work was too specific soil roughness through applied math, geostatistical, and shape indexes, comparison and relating them to soil and water losses in several experimental conditions. The study was conducted from 2012 to 2015, within the municipality of Lagos, within the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, in an exceedingly fully irregular style with 2 replicates. 3 treatments were evaluated: T1, scarified soil at the top of the ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) crop cycle when removal of the shoot residue; T2, scarified soil at the top of the legume (Vicia sativa) crop cycle when removal of the shoot residue; and T3, scarified soil while not cultivation and while not cowl. Water Erosion Risk Mapping and Materials Transfer in the Smir Dam Watershed (Northwestern Morocco)
Over the last 3 decades, wearing development has big to be the foremost serious and vital geo-environmental drawback in Morocco as within the whole Mediterranean space. As a matter of truth, it damages each soil functions and quality, to not mention the magnification of the surface waters pollution at the side of the siltation of Dams and reservoirs.
The Geographic data system (GIS), additionally to different tools, has shown to be in a veryll|one amongst|one in every of} the key parts accustomed model and assess potential erosion in a given space by estimating the speed of worn soils and also the quantity of sediment dispensed by either runoff or through rivers.
