Portal Vein Thrombosis and Budd-Chairi Syndrome Due to In-apparent Polycythaemia Vera
In patients without cirrhosis, portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a rare occurrence. The underlying aetiology of Budd-Chiari syndrome is unknown, although it is caused by obstruction of the hepatic veins that drain the liver. The characteristic trio of stomach discomfort, ascites, and liver enlargement characterises it. This syndrome is caused by myeloproliferative disorders, primarily polycythemia vera. Multiple splanchnic thrombosis, including portal vein thrombosis, can occur as a result of the latter, which has clinical consequences such as ascites, esophageal varices, collateral vascular origination, and so on. We discuss the case of a 37-year-old man who had significant abdominal pain, distension, and budd chairi syndrome, all of which were caused by polycythemia Vera.
