Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (3rd Edition)

Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language in its third edition, was primarily designed as a textbook for pre-service TESL/TEFL courses. The book can also be used in other ways, for example as a reference book and handbook for individual teachers to explore on their own and a sourcebook for teacher trainers. I would select this text as the essential starting point for teachers new to the field who wish to gain an overview of theory and practice. [1]

Learning Strategies in Foreign Language Instruction

This paper summarizes the findings of a three year project which investigated the use of learning strategies by foreign language students and their teachers,1 and suggests specific classroom applications for learning strategy instruction. Three studies were conducted under this project: (a) a Descriptive Study, which identified learning strategies used in studying foreign languages, (b) a Longitudinal Study, which identified differences in the strategy use of effective and ineffective language learners and analyzed changes in strategy use over time, and (c) a Course Development Study, in which foreign language instructors taught students how to apply learning strategies. Language Testing: The Construction and Use of Foreign Language Tests. A Teacher’s Book.

Intended as a comprehensive introduction to the construction and use of foreign language tests, this book utilizes modern linguistic knowledge as a base for scientific language testing. Major attention in testing is focused on such integrated language skills as auditory and reading comprehension, speaking, writing, translation, and over-all language control. Teaching of cross-cultural understanding and abstract values is also covered. Final chapters on the refinement and use of language tests are devoted to definition and description of norms, validity, reliability, item analysis, scoring, experimental design, and achievement. About Some Topical Ideas and Trends in Foreign Language Education of Children

This article presents some topical ideas about effectiveness of foreign language education of little children and some trends in this sphere. The special attention is paid on bilingual education of children at preschool and elementary school age. The author underlines the strategic importance of early foreign language education connected with the contemporary principle of lifelong learning education. [4]

The Role of Foreign Language Teachers’ Self-Efficacy in Their Burnout

Aim: This study investigated the relationship between burnout and self-efficacy among EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers. In addition, differences in teachers’ burnout and self-efficacy were examined with respect to demographics. [5]
