Butterfly gastroplasty is a new restrictive bariatric procedure that is successful in the long-term management of morbid obesity, particularly among bulk eaters. Other restrictive surgeries, such as a butterfly gastroplasty (micro funnel-shaped pouch) restricted to the cardia, are thought to cause rapid weight gain.
