Determination of Pathoradiological Association between Depth of Invasion and Neck Node Metastasis in Oral Cavity Tumours

Background Information: Although depth of invasion is considered an independent risk factor for occult lymph node metastases in oral cavity malignancies, it is difficult to determine with frozen section or incisional biopsy, necessitating neck dissection. As a result, the goal of this study is to establish a pre-operative radiological cut-off that will allow us to avoid or minimise needless neck dissections and thereby reduce the related co-morbidities. 1) To see if a rise in the depth of invasion in oral cavity cancer, as measured histopathologically and radiologically, is linked to neck node metastases. 2) To precisely correlate the radiological thickness at which neck dissection is necessary. Methodology: From April to December 2018, thirty patients with oral cavity carcinoma (buccal mucosa and anterior two-thirds of the tongue) who were operated in our tertiary care institution were studied retrospectively.
