Concept of Nazla WA Zukam (Rhinosinusitis) in Unani Medicine
Chronic rhinosinusitis is a highly frequent disease that has a negative impact on people’s health all over the world. The goal of the study was to determine the efficacy and tolerance of an oral Unani formulation combined with Kalonji inhalation in Iltehab Tajaweefe Anaf Muzmin (Chronic Rhinosinusitis), as well as to create a safe, effective, and cost-efficient treatment for Chronic Rhinosinusitis.
Methods: At the ENT OPD, Majeedia Hospital and HAH Hospital, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, a randomised single-blind, standard controlled study of forty CRS patients was conducted. Patients who had been clinically diagnosed were divided into two groups, each with 20 patients. In Group A, a Unani oral formulation of Katan (Linum usitatissimum), Filfil siyah (Piper nigrum), and Honey was given 6gm BD with steam inhalation of Kalonji (Nigella sativa), while Group B received Tab Alaspan 1BD with Karvol Plus inhalation.
Results: The data was analysed using a paired T-test, which compared the mean VAS score of all major and minor symptoms before and after treatment. In Group A, the result is statistically very significant (p0.0001), but in Group B, it is statistically significant (p0.01).
Conclusion: The Unani formulation with Kalonji inhalation appears to have a statistically significant effect on major and minor symptoms of Chronic Rhinosinusitis. To determine the efficacy of the formulation on CRS, a multicentric trial of the test medication with a bigger sample size and a longer duration is necessary.
